about the designer

Charlotte is an emerging textile-influenced fashion designer. Her design practice is centralised around slow handcrafted processes that are intertwined with her Greek cultural identity.

Charlotte studied at the University of Technology Sydney, graduating in 2022 with a Bachelor of Design (Honours), Bachelor of Design in Fashion and Textiles, Bachelor of Arts in International Studies (Italian).

Textiles and unique fabrications are always the starting point with Charlotte’s work. She is instantly drawn to the beauty of delicate and intricate fabrics that then become the inspiration for garment ideas. A passion for handcraftsmanship and artisanal work is embodied within Charlotte’s design practice as she strives to learn traditional textile methods. This tacit material knowledge is often experimented with in unique ways in order to keep these traditional modes of making alive, yet applying them in ways that are relevant to a contemporary fashion context. Drawn thread needlework and hand weaving via a loom are both manual handcrafted processes that feature in Charlotte’s latest work.

Charlotte has a strong interest in luxury resort womenswear that captures an essence of place and culture. Her garment designs are soft, sophisticated and breezy; yet fun, fresh and feminine. She aims to tell a story about place, culture, tradition and heritage through her practice, often best conveyed through her unique choice of fabrications. Charlotte is drawn to creating one-of-a-kind pieces that embody a richness in materiality. Vintage sourced tablecloths alongside doilies inherited from her grandmother often feature in Charlotte’s work and uphold a strong sense of cultural identity. By repurposing these treasured items, opportunities for sustainable design arise as a new life is provided. This contributes to a renewed interest in ‘slow’ design in which Charlotte strives to consistently maintain across her work.
